Cagire

Numerical simulations vs. experiments

What is Cagire?

CAGIRE is an acronym meaning Computational Approximation with discontinuous GalerkIn methods and compaRison with Experiments. It is a joint team between Inria Bordeaux Sud-OuestUniversité de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour (UPPA) and CNRS. It was created in June 2011. It is located at the IPRA building inside Pau university campus. The project of this team is to develop numerical and experimental tools for improving the knowledge of flows that can be encountered in internal aerodynamic.

Cagire is also the name of a mountain in the French Pyrenees.

Team composition

Permanent members

Pascal BruelPascal Bruel is the team leader. He is a research scientist at CNRS. He graduated from Sup’Aero in 1983, received his PhD in 1988 in Poitiers and then joined the Department of Engineering of the University of Cambridge for post-doctoral studies on auto-ignition of diffusion flames. He went back to France (Poitiers) at the end of 1989 to take up a permanent research position at CNRS (Lab. of Combustion and Detonation) where he participated in developing experiments and numerical methods for studying zero Mach number turbulent inert and reacting flows. He participated in the EU programs LES4LPP and MOLECULES for which he actively developed the ORACLES dump combustor. In 2005, he joined the Department of Applied Mathematics at UPPA where he developed the test facility MAVERIC for studying parietal flows with wall (discrete) air injection in partnership with Turbomeca.
